Four Oklahoma County inmates charged with manslaughter for deadly jail fight.

Todd Alan Miller, 31, Antonio DeWayne Ligons, 35, Hareth Hameed, 18, and Martaveous Dwayne Gillions, 20, were charged with first-degree manslaughter Wednesday.

According to investigators, Maurice Pendleton, 36, was attacked about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, shortly after he entered a holding area on the 8th floor.

A detention officer "heard a commotion on the ball-court and saw multiple black males jumping another black male," according to the affidavit.

Oklahoma County sheriff's office spokesman Mark Opgrande, said the officers immediately tried to break up the fight.

Pendleton was unconscious after arriving in the infirmary and was taken to the hospital. He passed away about 5 p.m. that day.

An investigation found six inmates were in the ball-court, a recreational area on the 8th floor that is sometimes used as a holding area.

Opgrande explained that the 8th floor is an area designated for violent crimes offenders, but none of the inmates involved in the attack had a separation order attached to their files.

Jail staff could not told News 9 if surveillance cameras keep watch on the ball-court holding area.

However, court records indicate a witness described the attack saying  "all of the inmates surrounded Pendleton, like he was prey. "

"They allegedly asked for his gang affiliation and then jumped him when he answered," according to the affidavit.

Gillioms and Hameed were already in the jail on murder warrants. Ligons and Miller are being held for violent offenses.

Opgrande indicated an internal investigation will be conducted.

"Any time there is a jail death in here we always go back and look at the internal workings to see if there is a way this can be prevented," said Opgrande.
