Moore police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that happened early Friday, and they need the public’s help identifying a suspect. Officers say Charles Shatswell was killed while riding a tricycle on SW 19th Street just after midnight.

Investigators are looking for a white pick-up truck with damage to the front end and driver's side. Witnesses say a woman may have been driving. Moore police spent Friday going from business to business on SW 19th Street, reviewing video from all the surveillance cameras that may have a view of the road.

50-year-old Charles Shatswell often rode his tricycle around the area at night. His wife tells police it helped him relieve anxiety. “On 19th Street there’s a turn lane in the middle. He was riding towards the middle of the roadway,” says Sgt. Jeremy Lewis of the Moore Police Department.

Investigators tell News 9 Shatswell had just left the 7-Eleven at SW 19th and Santa Fe, shortly after midnight.

Even with an expectation of less traffic during the overnight hours, Shatswell equipped his tricycle with a multitude of lights to make sure he could be seen. “He had reflectors and flashing lights all over the tricycle,” notes Lewis. “The witness was traveling westbound, noticed the tricycle before it was hit and then saw him get hit.”

A witness called News 9 after the crash and told us they saw a woman driving a truck eastbound, and that witness also told us the driver may have been texting at the time of the crash.

A witness at the scene told police the driver of the truck never slowed down. “They continued eastbound and never stopped,” says Lewis.

Police say they have found surveillance video from the surrounding businesses that show the white pickup truck in question, but details are hard to make out. They continue to look for a clearer picture, and are asking for the public’s help.
