We’re in for a warm and humid Sunday across Green Country, but a cold front is approaching that will bring with it a chance for scattered storms over the next 24 hours.

Pleasant conditions are expected for the morning hours across eastern Oklahoma with very light winds. Plan for a warm and humid day with highs in the upper 80s and heat index values in the low to mid 90s. Clouds will be on the gradual increase during the day as well.

The first window for a few scattered storms today will be from late morning into early afternoon, primarily north of Tulsa along the Oklahoma-Kansas line as outflow from earlier storms moves into the area.

Additional scattered storms will then be possible across southeast Kansas and far northeast Oklahoma, primarily north of Tulsa, from late afternoon to early evening as the cold front begins to get a little closer to Green Country. A few storms could be severe with damaging winds the primary threat.

Scattered storms will eventually move further south toward Tulsa late tonight into Monday morning, though overall coverage of storms looks to be fairly spotty with just about a 20%-30% chance for any one location to see a storm. The best chance of storms will shift into southeast Oklahoma on Monday as the cold front moves in.

That front will not cool us off dramatically, but it will reinforce the cooler than normal conditions into much of the upcoming work week! We should see comfortably cool mornings back in the lower 60s by Tuesday into Wednesday with highs remaining in the 80s as we wrap up August!

Meanwhile, Harvey remains stalled out over south Texas and continues to bring catastrophic flooding all along the Texas Gulf coast, particularly in the Houston metro. Unfortunately, Harvey will move very little over the next few days with another one to two FEET of rain possible in south Texas.

By the end of the week, Harvey may begin to drift north toward northeast Texas and southeast Oklahoma. If that does indeed happen, we could see some showers and storms associated with Harvey move into Green Country by next weekend. However, that is still a long ways out so we’ll continue to update you as things become more clear.
