People around Tulsa are getting ready for Monday's Great Raft Race.

One group is committed to cleaning up a popular area to watch the race.

Volunteers aren't just picking up trash, they're also using brooms to clean up the area.
It's an area they're passionate about.

Route 66 Commission Chairman Ken Busby said, "We wanna make Route 66 shine."

"Route 66 is just such a treasure." Said Brad Nickson of the Oklahoma Route 66 Association.

Ken Busby, Brad Nickson and a couple other volunteers who love Route 66 are sprucing up the walking and bike trails along the river right by the Avery Bridge.

They're doing it for the folks watching the raft race on Monday.

"We're gonna have people from all over the city, all over the state, and surrounding regions come in for this great raft race, so we want it to look its best," Busby said.

That means picking up trash even while it's raining.

"Rain shine snow sleet we'll do it," Busby said.

The volunteers hope their TLC will make a difference and make everyone a little more proud to live here.

"It's nice to come out and clean it up and put a little bit of shine back on it," said Nickson.
