Union and Jenks in the Backyard Bowl is one of the biggest high school football rivalries in the country.

It's an old cliché that you can throw out the record books in a rivalry, but in the case of these two teams, you really can.

Defending six-a-one champs Union comes into the game 2-0, with wins over BA and Euless Trinity from Texas.

This year's Redskin senior class haven't won a Backyard Bowl since 2014.

And they know they will face a hungry Jenks team.

Patrick Fields said, "They worked just as hard as we did this summer. Although things didn't go in their favor, you can't use that at all because they're Jenks and they're a great program, and great programs always find a way to be successful."

Kirk Fridrich said, "I really don't think it plays into it, and that's not just a pat answer. This game takes a life of its own, regardless of whether the team won the week before or it didn't."

As for Jenks, they're 0-2, and a loss would make them 0-3 for the first time in almost 50 years, but there's precedent for a turnaround.

In 2012, the Trojans were 0-2, beat Union, and went on to win 12 straight en route to a title.

So this year, it'll all have to start tonight.

Mitchell Kulkin said, "You have to be ready for this game, you have to be amped up for it, and so if you're not, it's going to be bad."

"You know when you step out there on the field Thursday if you're not at your best if you're not focused, if you're not physically and mentally prepared, you're probably not going to win, so it's a great test. It's what you want to do." Said Allan Trimble.
