The Unity Center of Tulsa is hosting a day of prayer this Wednesday, September 13th.

It will take place from 11:30am-1:30pm on the Guthrie Green.

The World Day of Prayer, in conjunction with churches and other faith communities around the globe, is designed to affirm peaceful and positive results following the events in Charlottesville, Virginia, the rise of hate crimes in America, and the conditions created by the hurricanes and floods.

“In many ways, the news has been very negative recently, “Rev. Dr. Rick Belous, UCOT’s Senior Minister, commented.

“Positive prayer, meditation, and singing out on Guthrie Green, as a community, are some of the most important things we can do in Tulsa,” he added.

Earlier this summer, Unity Center of Tulsa brought Tibetan Monks to Guthrie Green for an hour of chanting, prayers, and music.

“Last year the New York Times commented that a key reason Tulsa did not wind up with violence—like so many other cities-- following a police shooting was because of our strong interfaith community in Tulsa. We want to build on that,” Rev. Belous asserted.

Music will be provided by UCOT’s Music Director Mark Bryan, who regularly performs around Tulsa.

Prayers, meditations, and readings will be done by UCOT members and friends from many other parts of the Tulsa faith communities, including the Tulsa Metropolitan Ministries.

Following the Guthrie Green event, the World Day of Prayer will continue at UCOT (1830 S. Boston, Avenue, Tulsa) and conclude at 7:00 PM Thursday, September 14 with a concert.

“One key way that prayer changes things is that it can re-center and re-energize us. When we are renewed, great things can follow even out of difficult times,” Rev. Belous notes.
