A 13-year-old boy is in trouble with police after bringing a BB gun on school property.

It happened after school hours, but the threats the boy is accused of making are getting a lot of attention.

Police said the boy had the gun in a parking lot outside of Dunbar Intermediate Elementary School. The school said the boy reportedly showed the gun to several kids and threatened to shoot them.

"You don't bring them to school," said assistant superintendent Tod Williams.

The incident happened just before 9 p.m. Thursday night. The school district said the boy showed the weapon to several kids during the Okmulgee junior league's football practice, and the boy reportedly threatened to shoot the kids and also threatened to shoot school staff.

"Kids make poor choices from time to time sometimes there is no reason. The good news here no one was hurt," Williams said.

Okmulgee junior football league representatives said this has nothing to do with them. Practice had been over and there were just a few people in the parking lot waiting for rides when that 13-year-old student, who was not a part of the team, came up to a group of kids and showed them that BB gun. One of the kids who saw the BB gun went home and told their mom and that mom called the police.

"The police rounded that youngster up this morning and now it's in the hands of the police," Williams said.

The assistant superintendent said the district and police worked together to identify the boy. Police caught up with him before he got to campus Friday morning. They didn't find the gun with him but later found it at his house.

"Anytime we have situations like this is always a learning opportunity," Williams said.

At this point, it's not clear what action the district will take.

Police are not releasing any new information other than to say they are handing the case over to the district attorney to decide the next step.
