Tulsa Woman Out For $1,000 For Fence Work

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

A Tulsa women says a man took her money for fencing work and then never showed up.

She's now out for $1,000.

She's speaking out with the hopes of helping others.

Christie Warlick said she's contacted Tulsa Police and even the DA's office hoping to get answers.

She said a man took advantage of her and she wants to stop him so he doesn't strike again.

Warlick said it all started back in July when she needed some fence work done at her home so she started looking for bids. She said she found Lowell Lewis on Craig’s List and thought he seemed knowledgeable.

She paid him $300 for materials.

"He's a really nice guy, and I think he's okay, and so he did show up with the materials, that same day and he immediately did the work," Warlick said.

She was satisfied with the job and paid him the rest of the money.

About a month later, Warlick said she needed some work done at her business in Coweta and didn't think twice about calling Lewis.

That job was $1600 and Lewis said he needed $1200 for the deposit.

"I didn't even hesitate at that point to write him the check, to get the job done because I trusted him; he had done well the first time," Warlick said.

She said he told her he was running a few weeks out. When she called him in two weeks’ time, he kept saying he was delayed. Then she said she saw a scam alert about him on Craig’s list.

She says he stopped answering her and never showed.

Warlick said, "It was a very sickening feeling whenever I realized that oh my gosh, this guy is a scam artist, and I'm being taken".

This afternoon I contacted the number Warlick gave me for Lowell Lewis.

Warlick said she hopes others can learn from this and hopes the man is caught.

"While $1200 is a lot of money, someone really might not be able to afford to lose that and that's, it's a terrible thing to do," she said.
If you have any information you're asked to contact police.
