Tulsa Religious Leaders Gather For Unity Rally

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

In the wake of recent violence, some Tulsa religious leaders are uniting Saturday for a cause.

They're hoping to bring their community together with a Unity Rally.

Religious leaders said their goal is to be more visible in their community.

They said they want to bring back hope while stopping the violence and sharing the love.

About 75 Pastors are scheduled to come out Saturday in North Tulsa.

Their goal is to bring the community together.

"We wanted to make sure that we unite our city, our community, our young people, our elders, to bring us back, unify us with love," said Emanuel Collier with First Baptist Mohawk Church.

Pastor Caldwell of Agape Outreach Ministries helped put together what she calls a United Coalition of Clergy, after this summer's shooting in Crawford Park.

Caldwell said, "So we [can] be more visible in the community and to bring hope and to stop the violence and give hope to our community".

She gathered a bunch of religious leaders to start meeting once a month, and they decided to branch out into the community.

"We want to go, out and let the community know that we are here and that we want to bring the community together to stopped the violence to bring healing to our community," Caldwell said.

Some will even be wearing t-shirts, which symbolize their message.

Both Pastor Layla Caldwell and Emanuel Collier said they want the community to know that they, along with many others, are in it for the long haul.

They said this is just the first of many gatherings they hope to have in order to share the love with their community.

"Our pastors in the city really care, they care about us; they care about our lives," Collier said.
The Unity Rally will be tomorrow at 621 East 46th Street North, in the parking lot.

It begins at 2 pm.
