Cold Front To Move Into Eastern Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:

This is the week that we’ll track a cold front slowly moving into the state bringing some scattered showers and storms into the region along with some noticeably cooler air.  The front continues to be rather slow in the as the upper air flow will remain nearing parallel to the surface boundary for most the early period.

The better chance for rain and thunderstorms will remain near and west of the area today and for most of tomorrow with increasing chances late Tuesday afternoon and evening into Wednesday.  Severe weather is not expected with this system.  Unfortunately, some locations across eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas will not receive any precipitation from this front.  And this system doesn’t appear to be a big rain maker for eastern Oklahoma with higher totals across central to western sections of the state.  Locations that do manage to experience rainfall across eastern Oklahoma will be on the low side between .10 to 40 of an inch or so.

WARN Interactive Radar

Temps will remain warm today with highs in the upper 80s near 90 along with south winds around 10 to 15 mph.   Local dew point temps will remain in the upper 60s supporting slightly muggy weather for some folks but a lot better than last week.   As the front moves southeast slowly Tuesday night into Wednesday temps will begin dropping with morning lows Wednesday in the 60s and afternoon highs in the lower to mid-70s.   The north winds will remain Tuesday afternoon through the end of the week with a more appreciated cool-down Thursday and Friday morning with lows in the 50s to lower 60s and highs in the mid-70s.

The weekend may offer a return to south winds Sunday and slightly warmer air Sunday into Monday of next week before another cold front will arrive early next week.   Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.

Hurricane Maria is still churning into the Atlantic and may bring some impacts to part of the  U.S. East Coast this week.   Tropical storm and storm surge watches have been issued for North Carolina.

I'll be posting some updates regarding Maria on my Facebook page and Twitter page later today.
