A Rogers County family is being reunited with their missing dog. A microchip helped make Buddy's journey home possible.

Pam Mueller and her family searched every street and every neighborhood close to where they say their dog was taken. Thanks to the Rogers County Sheriff's Office, the family will soon be reunited with their dog.

It's a bond that was almost over in an instant - when Pam said someone took her beloved Buddy, a young  Australian Shepherd.

"We always hoped we'd get him back," said Pam Mueller, Buddy's owner.

Pam Mueller and her daughter Jordan say someone had taken their best friend, Buddy. They almost lost faith in finding him, but a small device kept hope alive.

"If we did find him one day it would be through the micro chip," Pam said.  "Eventually someone has to take him to a vet or somewhere, and we'll be contacted. So it really just turned into a waiting game."

The search for Buddy started back in June. Mueller scoured social media. Tips led her to a Rogers County store and its surveillance video. She says someone drove off with her dog in the van. Jordan, her daughter, was devastated.

"We were really worried that he wouldn't return home," said Jordan Mueller.

Just over two months after our story aired Mueller had a hit. The Roger County Sheriff's Office says a woman surrendered Buddy into an animal shelter in Kansas.

"We're currently working with the animal shelter in Kansas City on reuniting that dog with the rightful owner here in Rogers County," said Deputy Daniel Welch.

Mueller says she wants to leave pet owners with this message.

"Microchip your pets. It's the best way to get them back if they go missing," Pam Mueller, pet owner, said.

And Jordan's tears, now traded in for laughs. Their best friend is finally returning home.

"He was a great companion, a great dog, very loveable. She was really heartbroken when he went missing, so we're happy he's coming back," Pam said.

Deputies say this is still an ongoing investigation, but they've arranged for Buddy to be returned home to his family Tuesday night.
