Warmer Temps Return To Oklahoma By This Weekend

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

We're just about finished with this current stretch of active weather for the eastern third of the state but a few more showers may persist for a couple of hours this morning before moving along or south of the I-40 region for the midday to afternoon.   Low level dry air ( 40-50 dews) will be moving into northeastern Oklahoma and should stick around for a few days allowing for cool mornings and mild afternoons.   Lows in the mid to upper 50s are likely along with highs nearing the mid-70s both today and tomorrow.   The clouds may linger for most of today before becoming partly sunny later this afternoon across the northern third will while remaining stout to the south.   Always fun for the temp forecast.   But a warming trend is likely to occur this weekend and may continue for all next week with highs moving back into the mid-80s along with gusty south winds and eventually increasing humidity values.

A mid-level ridge of high pressure is expected to develop near the region for the short term.  Some data support another weak upper level trough to move out of the Rockies and brushing the northwestern part of our ridge Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning.   While there may be some showers or storms across northwestern Oklahoma or southwestern Kansas with this feature, by the time it nears our region it should run into the western edge of the ridge and basically have little impact.   I will keep the Friday and Saturday periods free of precip for the eastern third of the state.   EURO is now supporting another weak wave in the southwest flow bringing a few showers into the area Saturday night into Sunday morning but with no other support.   I’ll keep this pop also out of the forecast.  A weak front may enter far northern Oklahoma Monday but the odds will support this boundary remaining north of our immediate area.  Both GFS and EURO are now keeping this front away from the state and I’ll more than likely remover the low 10% for the period of Monday into Tuesday.

Most data support the ridge centering up over the state early next week with a surface low to the northeast.   This will keep us in the south winds, warmer air, and very little chance for significant precip until the end of the week.   Temps may eventually climb back into the lower and mid 60s for morning lows with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 80s next week.   Unfortunately, we are not finished with the warmer air.   But the pleasant fall weather will continue in the short term and should last through most of the weekend.   Enjoy!
