Dutch Sugar Art Show Contestant Robbed On Way To State Fair

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

A woman is left with nothing after arriving at the Tulsa International Airport.

She said someone ran off with her suitcase that had everything she needed to participate in a state fair competition.

She traveled 11 hours here to Tulsa to participate in the state fair's Grand National Wedding Cake Competition, but it wasn't until she arrived at the airport that she realized someone had stolen all of her luggage.

"It was one big mess. I haven't slept for two days, and you can only cry." Said baker Kim Wiltjer.

The last few days have been a real test of will for Wiltjer.

On Wednesday morning, this wedding cake baker from the Netherlands lost all of the belongings she brought to Tulsa.

That includes all her culinary tools, clothing, passport, and medications.

With nothing left, she turned to police for help.

"And he said, I saw your suitcase, but somebody took your suitcase. I said no you're kidding me. He said no I'm not kidding you. And he said no this is not an accident, I know for sure it was stolen." Wiltjer said.

When other baking competitors and volunteers heard about Wiltjer's story, they pitched in to help.

"People just started offering their stuff. Like what do you need? Maybe I have it, and I'll bring it over." Wiltjer said.

She said this was a ruthless act, but the kindness of others has motivated her to finish what she started.

“At that moment for me it was very important, but there are more important things in life." She said.
Wiltjer is looking forward to competing at the state fair tomorrow, she said she's grateful for all of the volunteers who stepped in to help.
