Teen Had Multiple Run-Ins With TPD Prior To Crime Spree

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Police say 16-year-old Deonte Green shot and killed a Broken Arrow teach Sunday, and sources said Green has been arrested several times this year for breaking into homes, assault and carrying a concealed weapon.

Green is in the Tulsa County Jail, booked for murder and other crimes.

News On 6 talked to two people Tuesday who said Green broke into their homes, and that he was looking for one thing - guns.

Security video from outside Peggy McBride's Brookside home in January shows a young man - believed to be Deonte Green - right before police said he broke into her home and stole two guns.

"He took my 22 Smith & Wesson a 1952-1956 model, 4-inch barrel, it's got the bluing and brown handles. and then took my dad's 22 rifle," McBride said.

McBride said when she saw his arrest on the news, she knew his face.

"When I saw the picture I was like, 'that's him,'" she said.

Green is accused of shooting and killing beloved teacher and father Shane Anderson during an attempted robbery near 61st and Memorial.

Green is also the suspect in a sexual assault in the same neighborhood.

"I'm just really upset by the whole thing," McBride said.

Mike Phillips lives less than a mile from where Shane Anderson was killed. He also has what he says is video of Green.

"He was in my house totally maybe just about two minutes, he went through all my drawers, threw the pillows off the bed," Phillips said.

Phillips said Green got away with a shotgun but realized it didn't work and tossed it as he ran off.

"I think he was specifically looking for weapons," he said.

Now, both Phillips and McBride wonder what would have happened if they were home, like Shane Anderson.

Both said the outcome wouldn't have been good.

"One of us wouldn't have walked out if that had happened that day, and that's sad because I don't want to ever make that decision," he said.

It's unclear at this point whether Green will be tried as an adult or a juvenile.
