October 9th To Be Indigenous People's Day In Tahlequah

Posted: Updated:
TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma -

October 9th, known to most as Columbus Day, will be Indigenous People's Day in Tahlequah on Monday.

The day’s events include a march, speakers, and powwow.

The march begins shortly after 5:30 pm at the Cherokee courthouse lawn in Tahlequah, ending at the NSU University Center building on campus.

The Indigenous Peoples Alliance of Oklahoma and Northeastern State University are partnering to provide the keynote speaker (Mr. Sunhawk) for the event.

Organizers ask participants to bring tribal flags and dress in traditional clothing.

They stress that not just indigenous nations are invited to join the festivities, but all nations.

For more details about the event, visit their Facebook page.

The event is planned and promoted by Tahlequah community members that represent various Indigenous tribes/nations called the
Indigenous Peoples Alliance of Oklahoma. This event is not sponsored by Cherokee Nation or UKB.
