Kiefer Police Dispel Rumors After School Lockdown

Kiefer Police said despite rumors spread on social media after a school lockdown Tuesday afternoon, there was no active shooter on campus and devices were not found in the school library.

Schools were placed on lockdown after shots were fired in a neighborhood. Police responded to the home where the shots were believed to have originated and were informed by the school that a student recently expelled due to “threats that involved a firearm” lived at the home.

"Rifles and a handgun were removed from the home and an arrest was made of an adult for charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm," Kiefer PD posted on its Facebook page. 

The man who was taken into custody was a convicted felon, and felons are not allowed to have firearms in their homes in Oklahoma. He is not the person shooting the rifle and was fully cooperative with officers, according to police.

"At no point was there an actual imminent threat against the school. Contrary to Facebook rumors, there was no 'active shooter,' there were no 'devices' found in a library and the police were not 'refusing to do their job.' All Facebook posts of information which indicate anything other than the facts posted here are erroneous and/or fabricated," police say.

Police will present the case to the district attorney for consideration of possible charges against the shooter, the post states.
