Basic Butter Pie Crust

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 2 1/2 cup flour butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4-1/2 cup ice water
  1. In a large bowl mix together the flour and salt.
  2. Using a pastry blender, fork or your hands mix the butter cubes into the flour until crumbs are formed. (This can be done in a matter of seconds in a food processor.)
  3. Slowly add in the water one tablespoon at a time until a ball is formed.
  4. DO NOT KNEAD OR OVER WORK THE DOUGH.
  5. Flatten the dough ball and wrap in plastic wrap.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours before using.
