Both the McClain County Sheriff's Office and OSBI are investigating the case that started out as a search for a missing person.

Lindsay Police arrived in the area around 100th and Council to find a man refusing commands to get out of a van.

When he eventually did, it was only to douse himself and the van in gasoline with a lighter in hand.

When he refused further orders, a Lindsay police officer decided to deploy a Taser.

Lindsay City Manager Stephen Mills said the officers only other option would've been to fatally shoot the man who was subsequently burned beyond recognition.

Mills says the officer involved was trained by Axon, the company that sells Tasers.

The name of the officer and the victim have not been released.
