Jeffrey Carroll had a no-good-really-bad game on Monday, but the senior bounced back in a big way in Tuesday’s 73-67 Cowboy win against Pittsburgh in the Legends Classic consolation game.

Carroll scored 29 points on an efficient 10-of-17 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds off the bench for Oklahoma State (4-1). It was in stark contrast to his four-point season debut the night before.

Sophomore Thomas Dziagwa hit four threes and finished with 12 points – the only other Cowboy to reach double-figures. Fellow sophomore Lindy Waters III filled up the stat sheet with four points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.

Pitt (1-4) was led by Shamiel Stevenson with 16 points off the bench. Leading-scorer Jared Wilson-Frame added 13 and freshman point guard Marcus Carr had a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists.

The Panthers led 14-9 with just under 13 minutes remaining in the first half before OSU used a 12-2 run – bookended by a pair of Dziagwa treys – to break the slump. The Cowboys pushed their lead to eight but Carr helped Pitt cut that to four at the break, 36-32.

With Carroll on the bench to start the second half, Pitt tied the game at 38 before OSU coach Mike Boynton subbed in his star player. Carroll took the game over in the second half, scoring 18 of the Pokes’ 37 in the frame.

Still, Pitt wouldn’t go away quietly. The Panthers made it a single-possession game four times in the final two minutes but the Cowboys finished the game eight-for-nine from the line to clinch it.

Next up for Oklahoma State – the Houston Baptist Huskies come to Stillwater on Sunday for a 2 p.m. CT tip.
