Texas DPS Trooper Shot, Killed Near Fairfield

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was shot and killed during a traffic stop Thursday afternoon on I-45 in Freestone County near Fairfield.

A massive manhunt for the suspect involving several law enforcement agencies is currently underway in surrounding counties. Police say Dabrett Montreal Black, 32, of Lindale, may be the suspected gunman. He's described as a black male, 5 feet 11 inches, 175 pounds.

According to authorities, Black left the shooting scene driving a Gray Chevy Malibu LP# JDN4273. He was last seen exiting in Dew and turning left on County Road 189.

UPDATE: Black was taken into custody around 8:30 p.m. The trooper was identified as 41-year-old Damon Allen.
