With little rain in the forecast, wildfire risks continue across the state.

A lot of what Oklahoma Forestry officials are saying are simple fixes like keeping grass cut short around your home and making sure cigarettes and cigars are extinguished properly.

Other precautions to put into effect include putting off the burning of debris, making sure campfires are fully extinguished and ensuring if you're towing a trailer that the chains aren't dragging on the asphalt where they may create a spark.

All these warnings come on the tail of an extended dry period across the state.

That dry weather paired with high winds and a cold front moving through our area is creating near critical fire weather in parts of the state.

"Presently across the state of Oklahoma, we are very dry due to rainfall deficits that began to build during the fall season, but were really pronounced throughout November and with a very dry November, we're set up to have an early start to what would be the peak of our fire season," said Drew Daily of the Oklahoma Forestry Services. "Right now, we are seeing a fire danger that is overall above normal in that the seasonal outlook for us is somewhat grim if you will."

Daily explained the conditions we're in store for this winter is expected to be warmer and drier due to a mini La Nina.
