Record Number Of Bikers Deliver Presents To OKC Kids Battling Cancer

Christmas comes early for some Oklahoma kids battling cancer. On Sunday, hundreds of bikers made several stops throughout the metro to deliver everything on the children’s' wish list. It’s part of the Bob Stoops Foundation’s annual Ride of Champions toy run.

“If you ride it one time, you'll understand why we do this,” said Tim Morris with the Ride of Champions.

Bikers from all over Oklahoma gathered early at the Fort Thunder Harley-Davidson in Moore. With bags of toys in tow, this joy ride is one that's full of Christmas spirit.

“These families give up a hundred percent of their life just to take care of their child, they don't have time to buy gifts, they don't have time to do anything,” Morris said.

Once the kickstands were up, the bikers were off to make their deliveries. Five-year-old Katelyn Green patiently waited outside her Moore home. She's one of 10 kids battling cancer that the foundation picked to receive gifts this year.

“She's got a good spirit and she's always happy and so it's really an honor that they chose her,” said Susan Green, Katelyn’s mother.

Katelyn was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago and even though she is in remission, she still undergoes treatment.

“She takes chemo every single day, oral chemo and new weekly chemo, IV once a month and then in her spine once a month,” Green said.

But today, she was all smiles as she spied a sea of motorcycles heading her way. The group of around 315 bikers was escorted by multiple law enforcement agencies including the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Cleveland and Oklahoma County sheriff’s offices, and Norman, Moore and Oklahoma City police departments. Santa Claus himself also joined the caravan. Once parked, Katelyn ran through the line of motorcycles before finally making her way to her driveway to receive her presents.

“If it's on the list they got it,” said Timmy Smith with the Ride of Champions.

The charity delivered $15,000 dollars in toys.

“We've missed a lot of work with treatments and had some other family hardships so this really is gonna make her Christmas,” Green said.

“The smiles on their faces are unbelievable,” Smith said. “It's maybe that one time they get to smile all week.”

This was the a 7th year for the event.
