A Green Country Marine hopes someone can help him find a missing memorial bracelet.

Someone found the bracelet and posted it on social media. He told them it was his and offered to pay for shipping or drive anywhere to pick it up, but never heard back.

Lance Corporal Brent Montgomery was shot in a firefight during the war in Iraq in 2004. Five of his fellow marines were killed.

Montgomery received a Purple Heart.

Four months later, his Gunnery Sergeant was killed, so they had bracelets made to honor his memory.

Montgomery is from Salina and didn't realize his bracelet was missing until someone posted a picture of it on several VFW websites.

A woman posted that a soldier in Skiatook had found it and wanted to give it back to the original owner and Montgomery said he reached out to her but never heard back.

"I was super excited. I was like, ‘I'll drive up, you can mail it. I'll pay you for it, whatever I need to do. I'll come meet you, I'll leave right now and come up there,’ and nothing. I didn't get anything back from her," he said.

That was three years ago.

Montgomery said he messaged the woman about 50 times and messaged many of her friends but never heard back.

"It's really frustrating that she would go through the trouble of trying to find the owner, then, once the owner speaks up, not," he said.

The bracelet was made for the Marines who served under Gunnery Sergeant Elia Fonteccio.

"He was an extremely good man," Montgomery said.

I messaged the woman and she told me a solider in his 20s brought the bracelet into the Big Bass convenience store in Skiatook. She said he found it and asked her to post it to find the owner. She said he hung onto the bracelet but didn't leave a name or number and she hasn't seen him in years. She said she never received any of Montgomery's messages.

"I'd like to have it back, I really would," he said.

If anyone knows where the bracelet is, you can email me at lori.fullbright@newson6.net so we can return the bracelet to the Green Country hero.
