Tulsa Artist Finds Beauty In Bone
TULSA, Oklahoma - An artist is always searching for ways to make their creations unique and stand out in a crowded marketplace.
Well, one young artist has done just that, by making jewelry out of bones and teeth.
"Growing up on a farm, I would do taxidermy here and there as a hobby and I just loved it," artist Katy Faye Fleming said.
Now it's jewelry from animal bones and human teeth.
Fleming admits it's not for everyone.
"I began making them just for myself," she said.
Then, she said folks started asking to make something for them - jaw bone earrings, leg bone necklaces.
Now, she’s got pieces she's finished and boxes of spare parts just waiting for inspiration.
Still hanging onto your kids’ baby teeth? Try turning them into something a little more wearable.
"Like a charm bracelet, or a necklace or something,” Fleming said.
