Several manufacturing companies in Broken Arrow are looking to fill hundreds of jobs.

The Oklahoma Manufacturing Alliance says the industry has really changed over the last several years.

The average manufacturing job in Oklahoma pays about $70,000 per year and the jobs are high-tech.

“It’s not the dirty, nasty job we used to think about,” said Curtis Evans.  “There’s a lot of computers, a lot of other technology, robotics, automation.”

The Broken Arrow chamber calls the manufacturing base the “backbone” of the local economy, and companies in Broken Arrow are ready to bring about 300 people on board for new positions.

Baker Hughes has 34 new positions open.

Baker Hughes Production Manager Kannan Sripathy says, “we need more people to keep up with our demand.”

Alfa Laval is expanding and just broke ground for a new building.

“Pretty much you name it – it’s going to be white collar engineers, it’s going to be blue collar welding,” said Factory Manager Mark Gorgas.

CymStar expects to have 100 new positions within the next 5 years and wants to hire a handful of folks even sooner.

Michael Hitz, CymStar Engineering Manager, says there is “a lot of opportunity for young people to get their feet wet in engineering.”

These manufacturing companies aren’t the only places in Broken Arrow that are seeing growth.

“The Rose District is growing,” said Sripathy.  “There’s all kinds of shops right now on Main Street.”

Sripathy says the Rose District could help convince someone to move here for work instead of going to another part of the country.
