Man Dies After Being Shot By Police At Owasso Home

Posted: Updated:
OWASSO, Oklahoma -

Police say a man shot by officers outside an Owasso home Wednesday evening died at a Tulsa hospital.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation identified the man as 39-year-old Duane Preciado.

Deputy Chief Jason Woodruff says officers were called to the home in the Lake Valley neighborhood near North 151st East Avenue and East 108th Street North at about 10:30 p.m. The area is east of Highway 169.

He says when officers arrived they made contact with Preciado, who was holding an AK-47 rifle and semi-automatic pistol. Woodruff says the officers ordered him to drop the weapons.

According to OSBI, the officers backed up to their patrol cars for cover and continued yelling commands to Preciado. They said he continued toward the officers, yelling threatening comments. Both officers eventually fired their weapons.

He was transported to a Tulsa hospital where he died around 11:30 p.m.

One neighbor watched the whole situation unfold from his driveway.

"He fell on the sidewalk here, and he came over over and the police did - and tried to render first aid to him, but I think he was gone pretty quick," said neighbor Roger Reed.

"I feel bad for the police who had to discharge their weapons and I feel bad for the individual who lost his life."

Preciado's family told News On 6 he served 16 years in the Air Force, deployed on three tours and suffered from PTSD. They said he was a good man and they are still trying to understand what happened.

News On 6 anchor Brian Dorman interviewed Preciado last month at a gun range.
