Nice Sunny Saturday Before Sunday's Rain Chances

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Make some outdoor plans! We are in for a stellar sunny Saturday all across Green Country.

A weak front is pushing through eastern Oklahoma, helping to usher in north winds and sunnier skies today. Despite that front, our temperatures will still be comfortably warm with highs well into the 70s this afternoon! That north breeze will be a bit brisk with some gusts over 20 miles per hour during the morning, but slowly relaxing during the afternoon.

If you like the sunshine, you’ll definitely need to soak it up because it will be in short supply after today! Clouds will begin to thicken up on Sunday with the approach of a powerful upper-level storm system that will bring us several days of rain chances.

The first round of showers arrives on Sunday, with mainly light rain amounts expected for this first round. With ample cloud cover on Sunday, our temperatures will stay cooler with highs only in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Another batch of scattered showers and storms is expected to develop on Monday. With warmer air and additional Gulf moisture streaming back into Green Country, a few storms Monday could reach severe levels.

The biggest round of storms and heavy rain looks to arrive late Monday night into Tuesday morning as a slow-moving squall line of storms could develop. This round looks to produce the majority of our heavy rain with totals of 2 to 4 inches possible, particularly southeast of Tulsa. This could lead to some flooding especially in southeast Oklahoma on Tuesday.

The exact details on our rounds of rain will continued to be fine-tuned over the next few days. But the bottom line? Make sure you have your umbrella and rain gear handy starting Sunday!
