Smoke Fills Tulsa After Osage County Prescribed Burns

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Smoke is filling the air across much of the Tulsa metro area as northerly winds draw in smoke from prescribed burns across Osage County.

The smoke is dense at times due to an inversion layer. This means that warmer air trapped above the surface is keeping the smoke plume trapped in the lowest levels of the atmosphere.

This is limiting visibility at times to under 2 miles and lowering the air quality as well. If you are sensitive to smoke, avoid spending time outdoors for the remainder of the day. The winds should gradually shift direction this evening with conditions improving by sunset and beyond for most areas.
