Newly-Named OU President Visits Tulsa Campus

The University of Oklahoma named James Gallogly to replace David Boren, who will step down in June.

Monday night, Gallogly met with faculty, staff, and students at OU-Tulsa. He’s held several events like this, including ones in Oklahoma City and Norman.

Gallogly has an extensive background in the oil and gas industry - most recently as the C.E.O. of LyondellBasell Oil Company, and a high-ranking executive at ConocoPhillips, Chevron Phillips and Phillips Petroleum.

He also started his career as an attorney.

Gallogly said he has worked closely with Boren and will continue to consult with him.

“David Boren has been amazing for this university and he's built an incredible foundation, and I'll be the first to say no one can take David's place. There is one David Boren,” he said.

Gallogly said he hopes to propel the university to the next level.

He's already invested quite a bit into the school. Gallogly's family have been major donors to the university; in fact, the engineering school now holds the Gallogly name.

After the meet and greet, Gallogly will be at a private reception in Tulsa.
