A Taste Of Winter For Easter Sunday

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Bundle up! Winter has made an abrupt return as we’re in for one of our coldest Easter Sundays on record!

You’ll want both the big coat and also some rain gear handy today. Areas of drizzle and light showers will be with us off-and-on for much of our Easter Sunday, and temperatures are going nowhere fast! We’ll slowly fall into the low to mid 30s this afternoon in Tulsa and across most of northeast Oklahoma, with wind chill values in the 20s thanks to a stiff northeast wind.

And, believe it or not, a few areas could be dealing with light freezing precipitation before the day is up! Patchy freezing drizzle will be possible, particularly north of Tulsa, this afternoon into early evening as temperatures fall to the freezing mark or just below freezing. Road impacts should remain very minimal thanks to warm ground temperatures, but elevated surfaces could have a few slick spots develop by late in the day so be aware!

Heads up for you gardeners: Make sure your tender plants are covered! A light freeze is expected tonight from Tulsa to the northwest as overnight lows drop to the 29 to 31 degree range.

As we head into the first week of April, spring weather is nowhere to be found! Chilly and cloudy conditions will hang very tough on Monday, with additional light showers expected and afternoon highs struggling to climb out of the 40s.

Warmer air will surge in Monday night, pushing us into the 50s by Tuesday morning. But yet another cold front arrives on Tuesday, keeping us cool in the 50s with howling northwest winds. And by Wednesday morning, expect yet another freeze as we dip back into the upper 20s!

We should see at least one day of pleasant temperatures next week; that comes on Thursday as highs return to the 60s for at least one day! But that will likely be short-lived as yet another cold front looks to arrive on Friday, reinforcing the chilly air into next weekend and bringing another shot at some showers and storms.

I hope you have a wonderful and blessed Easter, Green Country! Make sure to follow me on Twitter @StephenNehrenz as well as my Facebook page Meteorologist Stephen Nehrenz to stay up to date with the very latest!
