About 600 Jenks teachers are rallying in Oklahoma City - many of them rolled out Monday morning from the high school.

Parents, teachers and students loaded buses with signs in hand. They're pushing for an increase in education funding and say if a change isn't made it's going to have a negative ripple effect.

“It's hurting the kids, but it's hurting the community. The community is the school. And when you hurt the kids, you hurt the school, you're hurting the future of the students, you're hurting the future of the state of Oklahoma and that's what we're here for,” said Jenks teacher and Classroom Association President Michael Horn.

“This is important to me because if they don't go to the capital to earn more money for our schools then we won't have enough stuff for our education and we won't grow up and get a job,” 9-year-old Pearce Brann.

Jenks is not paying for any of the transportation costs. Teachers and corporate sponsors are footing that bill and the drivers are volunteering their time.
