Another Cold Front Set To Move Into Northeast Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

After staying in the 30s and 40s yesterday afternoon, overnight south winds with a warm front is bringing warmer weather rapidly into northeast Oklahoma this morning.  Temps will be in the lower 60s to mid-60s this morning across eastern Oklahoma before the next front quickly moves across the area this morning to midday lowering the readings again this afternoon with very strong northwest winds.

A narrow line of showers will be possible along the boundary near the metro this morning as it passes the metro around 10 am to 11 am.  As the front encounters southeastern Oklahoma a few storms will be possible by midday.  These storms will quickly strengthen and become severe once they enter far northeast Texas and southwest Arkansas.  Again, this activity will not impact our main areas of concern.   Strong south winds are already underway this morning but northwest winds from 20 to near 35 mph will be possible this afternoon and may require wind advisories for locations along and northwest of the I-44 corridor region.   Despite the recent rainfall, the fire danger will increase due to the gusty winds.

WARN Interactive Radar

Temps will drop from the lower 60s this morning to the middle to lower 50s by later in the afternoon.  A surface ridge of high pressure will settle upon northeast Oklahoma tonight allowing nearly perfect radiational cooling with lows dropping into the mid to upper 20s.  A freeze watch currently underway for the area will be upgraded to a freeze warning later tonight.  After the cold start Wednesday morning, temps will move into the lower or mid 50s with sunshine and pleasant conditions before south winds bring us a warmer day Thursday as highs reach the mid to upper 60s.

Weather Alerts

The pattern will bring shot of rain and colder air back into the area by Friday.   The next surface low will take a southern route Thursday night into Friday and will quickly develop and bring rain back into the area Friday morning through midday with another surge of shallow cold air pushing into the state.  Temps Friday morning will start in the mid-40s but will drop into the mid 30 by afternoon and near freezing by late Friday night into Saturday morning.   There will remain a chance for some wintry precipitation during this period, mainly along the far northeast Oklahoma and southern Kansas state line region.   Temps will rebound into the 40s Saturday and into 60s Sunday before the next system arrives Sunday evening with a slight chance for a shower or storm.
