TCSO: Standoff At Home Of Recent Double-Murder Suicide

Posted: Updated:
TULSA COUNTY, Oklahoma -

Two men are in custody after a four-plus-hour long standoff at the home Tulsa County deputies said was the scene of a double-murder suicide.

It started when deputies responded to a break-in at the home in the 6400 block of North Frankfort Avenue and took one person into custody.

They said a second person remained inside, which led to the standoff.

"They threw some pepper balls into the house. Despite that, he remained inside the attic, so our SWAT team made entry and got him into custody," said Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Casey Roebuck.

The home is the same place where Eric Widger Sr. shot and killed his wife, their 20-year-old daughter and seriously injured their 18-year-old son on Easter.

"The 18-year-old son lost his entire family over the weekend and he's now in the hospital recovering. And now the home has been burglarized, so it's pretty sad," Roebuck said.

Neighbors called the sheriff's office when they saw two men, who deputies identified as Willie Lot and Duniven Phelps, break into the home.

When deputies got to the scene and arrested one man, they realized the other was still inside and knew from their investigation over the weekend just how dangerous the situation could be.

"This was a huge concern for us because there are a large amount of guns and ammo in the house," Roebuck said.

Deputies said after the double-murder suicide, they cleared the crime scene and turned the home, along with the guns inside, over to family.

Now, they said the guns will be removed to make sure this doesn't happen again.

“We're not going to leave the guns there, obviously. Either they are going to be given to a different family member or we're going to take them and secure them," Roebuck said.
