When Coach Freddy Fri isn't calling plays on the basketball court, he's using Hip-Hop-One-On-One as a platform to reach student athletes through his success series, just as his mentor, famed motivational speaker Dr. Eric Thomas, is doing around the world.

For Fri, winning and losing isn't what matters, it's what’s off the court that does, and he wants to make sure to give these athletes the tools that they'll need to make everyday a “WINS-DAY.”

“So, every one of those letters, I can tap into something that's going with them, not only in competition but out of competition,” he said.

Fri said the success series is an opportunity to share his childhood in north Tulsa, coping with his mother’s death at four years old due to a kidney failure and with the right guidance, the athletes, just as he did, can make better choices.

“The more that us as parents or us as coaches can put them in front of people who are trying to speak life into them, the better the odds are that they're going to hear somebody,” he said. “NBA, NFL, that's tough to predict that, but I can pretty much predict that somebody can go out and be a productive citizen in this world and live there dreams doing the things that they want to do even if it doesn't involve sports.”
