The rain this weekend canceled an annual softball tournament held in honor of Sydney Angle, who was killed in the 2013 Moore tornado.

“We've never had a situation like this,” said Daniel Angle, Sydney Angle’s father.

The muddy fields at Buck Thomas Park in Moore didn't see any play on Saturday, but it didn't stop this crowd from honoring Sydney on Sunday.

“Having fun, being silly, laughing, dancing, listening to music,” said Daniel.

All things the 9-year-old loved, along with turkey legs and picklesicles.

“Seeing my little girl's picture all over the dugouts and hearing the music she listened to and danced to that's what does it for me, that's why I’m here,” he said.

Sydney was among the seven Plaza Towers Elementary students killed in 2013 Moore tornado. What started as a fundraising tournament to help the family, who also lost their home, turned into an annual memorial tournament to help others.

“We purposely plan it in April because it's her birthday in April and that's a hard time for us but doing the tournament it gives us something good that comes from all of this,” said Nicole Angle, Sydney’s mom.

Since 2014, Sydney Angle Memorial Softball Tournament has raised just over $125,000 in scholarship money for 26 high school seniors.

“The parents who text us and email us and let us know how much easier things were made on their daughter because they had a little less to worry about financially during their season, they could focus more school work and they could focus more on ball, it's that,” said Nicole.

In its five years, this is the first time the tournament has been rained out.

“Each year we've been able to grow and get bigger and give out more scholarships higher amounts etc.,” said Daniel. “This will be the first year that won't be the case.”

However, through the party, Syd style, they hope to raise the money through food and t-shirt sales, while celebrating number 35.

“We've got little girls that played with her and no matter what they do they're always doing something and saying, ‘I’m doing this for Syd,’ it's that kind of stuff, those girls remember too,” said Nicole.

Now all the money raised during Sunday’s event will go directly to the scholarship fund. If you weren’t able to attend the event, you can give to the fund through this GoFundMe account: https://www.gofundme.com/sydney-angle-memorial-tournament
