JENKS, Oklahoma -

Police have located a student who tried to board a Jenks school bus with a knife.

The district said quick action by the bus driver prevented the student from getting on the bus.

It happened at a middle school bus stop near 96th and Memorial between 8:15 and 8:30 Monday morning.

Parents were called about the incident just after 9:30 a.m.  The message they received said, "a student attempted to board a bus with a knife.  The bus driver took quick decisive action to prevent the student from boarding the bus.  No students were harmed during this incident."

The district says the bus driver showed up to get the kids and loaded up all of the students but one, who she noticed was carrying a knife.  They say she immediately told the student he couldn't ride, shut the doors, and left.

Campus police were notified and began searching for the student, as well as increasing their presence at the middle school.  The student was located within a couple of hours.

The school district says the student is being dealt with appropriately, but can't say who he is or what the punishment is because of privacy laws.

As for parents, they say they're happy with how quickly the situation was handled.

"That bus driver...did a really good job," said Jenks parent Jen Hicks.  "They've got it under control.  They've got procedures in place.  They know what to do and they react pretty fast."

To reassure students at the middle school, the principal sent out a note, which reads, "I'm glad you all arrived at school safely and look forward to a wonderful day!  I just wanted to send you this note in case you heard something this morning.  We are all safe here at Jenks Middle School."

It's unknown what caused the bus driver to be concerned, what kind of knife the student had, or if the student made any threats with the knife.

The district says that Tulsa Police Department was made aware of the incident, but campus police ended up handling it.
