Investigators are still trying to figure out what led to a grass fire that charred several acres of land at Chandler Park west of Tulsa Sunday afternoon.

While there is no official cause just yet, firefighters said they think someone in the area may have started the fire accidentally.

"When we got here they were already pretty much putting it out," said Park-Goer Ray Sanderson.

As Sanderson walked through Chandler Park, thick heavy smoke swirled all around him as a fire burned nearby.

"It was more back a couple of holes, but it's thinning out really quick they're doing a good job of getting it put down," said Sanderson.

The grass fire started just before 2:30 p.m.

Firefighters said the flames burned two or three acres in total.

Crews said at one point the fire split, heading in two different directions.

With the dry weather conditions, firefighters said leaves and underbrush served as fuel.

"It's kind of a canyon down there and it’s on the side of Chandler Park there so the wind's catching it in different ways," said Berryhill Firefighter Jim Arrowood.

Both Sand Springs and Berryhill Fire Departments worked to put the fire out.

The cause is still under investigation, but firefighters have a theory about what may have happened.

"At this point not yet. You have to believe it was a campfire or something right now," said Arrowood.

No one was hurt and they didn't have to evacuate the park.
