BOK Center Ready To Implement Severe Weather Safety Plan

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

With Wednesday’s threat of severe weather and a major world tour kicking off here in Tulsa, the BOK Center says it has a safety plan in place.

In the 10 years the arena has been here, they have had to activate the shelter in place plan just one time, but they say they are always ready to have to do it again.

Patrick Bremmer is in Tulsa from Connecticut and just learned of the severe weather threat.

“Doesn't that add to the excitement in some way?  These people don't seem too worried,” said Bremmer.

And the BOK Center says they don't need to be worried.

The arena says all staff members are prepared and continuously trained to handle severe weather that might result in a shelter in place situation.

"On every concourse and every event level, we have safe zones where we take people in case of a tornado," said Assistant General Manager Casey Sparks.

And for all the General Admission super fans outside waiting until the doors open at 6:30, there is a plan to keep them safe as well in the event storms strike while they were all still outside.

"We open up the doors no matter what,” stated Sparks.  “Whoever is out there, we get them in."

But for the folks outside, many say they're used to sticking it out in any weather in order to see the band they love so much.

"I just came from a very harsh New England winter with three nor'easters in three weeks, so I am used to it.  I'm not phased," declared Bremmer.

The arena also says to keep a close eye on them through social media – all weather or emergency information will be constantly updated.
