Fire crews across Green Country are getting some financial help that could save lives.

The Cherokee Nation is donating nearly $500,000 to 131 area volunteer fire departments.

Each department gets $3,500 for equipment, fuel, and other necessities.

This allows crews to maintain fire stations and protect people in their communities.

The checks were handed out Monday at the tribe’s annual appreciation banquet at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
