Teachers are back in classrooms this week and many with a fresh start and the promise of more money in their pockets.
Many of the teachers say they were pushed to the breaking point earlier this year and most of them say things are slowly getting better.
In order to get the raises they demanded, legislators worked to get Governor Mary Fallin to sign a historic teacher pay raise.
A new survey by the Oklahoma State School Boards Association shows morale is up with average pay increases of around $5,000.
"When you pay teachers better especially those teachers who are just getting into it they won't go somewhere else we keep them here that's essentially better education for them as well," said Sheila Sanders, Chickasha H.S.
A survey from the State School Board Association reports despite those raises, 57% of superintendents surveyed feel the teacher shortage is worse this year than it was last year.
