U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Department of Justice announce they've picked the City of Tulsa as one of their public safety partners.

Sessions says the goal of the partnership is to reduce specific types of crime across Tulsa.

It is called a Public Safety Partnership, or PSP, and its focus is going after criminals who are involved in violent crimes like drugs, guns and gangs.

As a PSP, Tulsa will have access to a lot of resources from the U.S. Department of Justice.  The department wants to specifically help state, local, and tribal law enforcement in their pursuit of reducing violent crime, which the DOJ says is part of the President Trump's Promise to America.

Tulsa, specifically, is receiving help from what's called a PSP Operations Team, which partners directly with agencies to strategically address violent crime issues.

The feds says PSPs has helped reduce violent crime in part of Memphis, helped Indianapolis Police increase their homicide clearance rate and helped reduce the homicide rate in Birmingham, Alabama.
