Got a dog in distress? A new metro business wants to help by using aquatic therapy.

The Water Bark located at 3800 N. Cromwell Avenue in Oklahoma City gives older and disabled dogs another chance at physical activity.

There are two indoor heated saltwater pools designed for three purposes - swimming, fitness and water rehabilitation.

“Last January, I went to Florida and learned how to swim the dogs, control the dogs. How to work with their pain and injuries, and just massaging and taking care of them in the water,” said Debbie Price, co-owner of The Water Bark.

They've only been open for a month, but there have already been major improvements in their K-9 clients, like Pig.

Pig's owner says the therapy has helped her overall quality of life. She's now more alert and energetic.

“For me it's I get more time with her. And time that she's happy, so that's worth it to me to come down and see them as often as we can,” said Mandy James, Pig’s owner.

And the owners of The Water Bark say they welcome dogs of all ages and breeds.

“30 minutes of swimming they say, is equivalent to a three-mile walk for your dog,” said Price.

The owners had a dog named Buddy, who sparked their idea for opening the facility when he began having difficulty with his knees. They say his passion for continuing to fight made them realize that if you give a dog a chance they will most likely take you up on it.

The hope for the next few years is to expand across Oklahoma and to make swimming therapy for dogs more accessible.
