The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a Tulsa man was not wearing a life jacket when he drowned Sunday at Fort Gibson Lake.

Troopers say 29-year-old Robert Golden died after they say he attempted to swim across a cove at Cherokee Landing in Sequoyah State Park west of Hulbert.

The OHP report states just before 4 p.m. Golden got half way across the cove when he went under the water.  Several people brought him to shore and were performing CPR when firefighters and EMS personnel arrived.

He was taken to a Wagoner hospital where he died just after 5 p.m.
