Surprise, surprise! The heat and humidity are rolling right along for our Tuesday here in Green Country, but some changes are headed our way.

Remember Monday’s conditions? Well, get ready for nearly identical weather today. Once again we can expect plenty of daytime sunshine, a gusty south wind 15-25 miles per hour, and afternoon highs surging back into the mid 90s. But with continued high humidity those heat index values will surge over 100 to near 104. You know the drill: Limit your time outside during the afternoon heat and please take it easy with your outdoor activities!

Weather Alerts

A weak cold front will be approaching Green Country by late in the day into tonight. This will likely trigger scattered storms across northwest Oklahoma and into Kansas by late in the day, but this initial activity should stay to our north through this evening. Late tonight into the overnight hours, a few widely scattered showers and storms will be possible, primarily north of Tulsa near the Oklahoma/Kansas state line.

Interactive Radar

That front will gradually sag south into eastern Oklahoma on Wednesday. Some widely scattered storms will be possible across northeast Oklahoma during the day Wednesday, although overall coverage of storms may be somewhat low so some of us will end up staying dry. Some strong to severe storms will be possible by late Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night as well. That front should help curb our temperatures down a few degrees for Wednesday, with highs in the mid to upper 80s across far northeast Oklahoma and lower 90s in southeast Oklahoma.

Scattered storm chances will linger into Thursday as well as the remnants of that front hang out across Green Country. Once again the overall coverage of storms may be somewhat low, but we should have enough clouds to keep highs again closer to the low 90s Thursday afternoon.

Expect the steady late August heat to continue as we head into the long Labor Day weekend! We’ll continue with highs in the lower to mid 90s from Friday into the weekend, which should be perfect for everyone making one last summer run to the lake! I can’t rule out a few stray storms over the weekend as well, so we’ll be watching that closely for any outdoor plans.
