Amy Morgan is the Executive Training Director of Academy Hour, a website full of online classes aimed at serving members of law enforcement in two ways.

Some classes are designed to help officers with their own mental health.

“They see a lot of things,” Morgan said. “They have a lot of trauma. They see a lot of disturbing events.”

And other classes are designed to help officers identify mental health issues in the citizens they encounter on the streets, so they can improve some of their interactions.

Oklahoma County Sheriff's deputies use the training. And while it may not work for every situation, it is another tool at their disposal to try and keep things from escalating.

“This program and programs like this allows them to get as much knowledge as they can to make the streets safer and to make the interactions safer with the public too,” said Mark Opgrande with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office.
