Optometrists are holding a conference in Tulsa Friday just a couple months before voters will decide on a state question that directly impacts them.

The Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians is in the middle of their Fall Conference and this organization, that's been around since before statehood, is strongly against State Question 793.

It's one of a number of state questions voters will decide on in November.

SQ 793 is a constitutional amendment that would allow optometrists to practice inside "retail mercantile establishments", which would pave the way for them to practice in big box stores for example.

The question would also allow the legislature to put several limits on those locations, including the types of procedures that can be done and the number of locations at which an optometrist can practice.

An exclusive News On 6 poll earlier this year showed 48-percent of Oklahomans support SQ 793.  Roughly 24-percent oppose the measure.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 6th, and October 12th is the last day you can register to vote.
