Federal agents arrest dozens of illegal criminal immigrants after spending the past 10 days getting them off the streets.  Some of those arrested were in Tulsa.

In all, federal deportation officers with Homeland Security arrested 98 people who are in the country illegally and committing crimes.

The majority of the arrests were made in Texas, but agents say they arrested eight people in Tulsa and three in Oklahoma City.

Agents say most of the people targeted during the operation had prior criminal histories for things like drug trafficking, burglary, smuggling illegal immigrants into the country and sexual assault offenses against both children and adults.

Officers say 29 people arrested illegally re-entered the US after having already been deported. They say five gang members were also taken into custody.  Some of those arrested could be deported, while others, like those who re-entered the US illegally a second time, could serve time in a federal prison.

Agents say during these type of operations, officers come into contact with many people in the country illegally.  Homeland Security says it doesn't arrest them all, saying officers evaluate on case-by-case basis and only arrest illegal immigrants if appropriate.
