The Enid Police Department says an armed robbery suspect is dead following a shootout with officers Thursday morning.

According Enid PD, officers responded to the armed robbery at Famous Footwear located at 4408 W. Owen K. Gariott Road, just after 10:20 a.m. Officers learned the suspect was armed with both a handgun and a knife, and fled from the scene in a vehicle.

Enid PD says officers quickly located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop at Rupe and Hayes. The suspect led the officers on a short chase before coming to a stop near the intersection of Frantz and Washington.

According to officers, the suspect exited the vehicle and brandished a weapon. The suspect reportedly ignored commands to drop the weapon before pointing it at officers. That's when officers shot the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

At this time, Enid Police has not released the suspect’s name.

The Enid police captain says no officers were injured in the shooting.
