Driver Inattention Blamed For 5-Vehicle Okmulgee County Crash

Oklahoma Highway Patrol said inattentive driving led to a five-vehicle injury crash Monday in Okmulgee County. Two people were injured, according to a collision report.

Troopers said Edwin Neighbors, a 64-year-old Sapulpa man, was northbound on Highway 75 near Winchester when he failed to slow his semi truck for stopped traffic. He rear ended a Dodge Ram truck driven by Joshua Jennings of Mabank, Texas.

Jennings' truck was pushed into the outside lane where it hit a Nissan Juke driven by a 63-year-old Haskell woman named Thelma Cheatham, troopers say.

Neighbors, who was driving a Western Star tractor trailer, next hit a second Dodge Ram, this one driven by Henryetta resident Wade Lackey, 46. Lackey's truck hit a second semi driven by a Fort Worth man.

OHP said Jennings and Cheatham were both taken to Tulsa hospitals where they were admitted with internal injuries. They were both said to be stable. The other drivers weren't hurt, according to OHP.

Everyone involved was wearing seat belts, the collision report states. The cause of the collision is listed as inattention.
