Gundy Not Discouraged By Iowa State Win
STILLWATER, Oklahoma - A true freshman backup quarterback, Iowa State's Brock Purdy, enjoyed a big day at Boone Pickens Stadium against OSU. Mike Gundy says there are reasons behind why the Cyclones were so successful.
Iowa State's suddenly explosive offense has created some major concern among Cowboy fans, and Mike Gundy says you can trace most of the defensive issues to one thing - young, inexperienced safeties forced into action.
"I was hoping we weren't going to have to have as much youth at that position that we're having, and so I'm not discouraged by it," said Coach Mike Gundy.
"You're just violating eyes and guys that have run responsibility and a pass responsibility and you have to be extremely, extremely locked in on what you're supposed to."
Gundy says he expects Kansas State to do a lot of the same things this Saturday in hopes of confusing the Cowboys' secondary. The Wildcats are 2-4 overall and winless in Big 12 play after a 3-point loss at Baylor Saturday.
